My Favourite Websites

Below is a short list of some of my favourite websites.  I've chosen these because they are easy to navigate and understand as a beginning genealogist.  Although some of these sites are not free, most offer at least some free material.

As time goes by, I'll add more sites to the list.  it'll never be a Cyndi's List but you can be sure that I've visited each one and have found them useful.

Family History Online (fee per view site with images and searchable databases)

Cyndi's List (massive website directory of genealogy links)

Family Search (searchable databases and library catalogue of the Mormon's)

Picture Australia (useful for images and old photographs)

National Archives of Australia (searchable records many digitised and downloadable images)

Commonwealth War Graves (for those who have relatives that served in the wars)

National Archives of UK (similar to our NAA)

Historical Directories (searchable database of English directories)

Queensland State Archives (immigration to Queensland as well as other searchable databases)

The Ryerson Index (Australian newspapers obituaries)

Genuki (massive site of genealogy links and information pertaining to the UK)

Ancestry (fee and free site with a massive amount of searchable material)

Scotlands People (Scottish Registery Office searchable fee based records.  Digitised images for download)

Origins (subscription based searchable databases of UK records)

Certificate Exchange Website a good place to browse every so often. A place for people to exchange unwanted certificates, wills etc.

Interment Net Thousands of transcriptions of cemetery records and headstone inscriptions from around the world. Best of all it's free!
